Once a Bulldog, Always a Bulldog

Update on lockdown: A message from the Superintendent’s Office

Posted Date: 3/25/25 (11:15 PM)

Good evening,

Today, Okmulgee High School was placed on a temporary lockdown as a precautionary measure after authorities were made aware of a concerning photo circulating on a messaging app. The photo appeared to show a student with a firearm in a school bathroom.

Our team immediately contacted law enforcement, and both Okmulgee Police and Muscogee Lighthorse Police responded swiftly. The student involved was taken into custody, and a thorough search of the school was conducted. No firearm was found on campus, and after further investigation, authorities have confirmed that the photo was taken on a different day.

The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. We appreciate the prompt response from law enforcement and the cooperation of our students and staff during this situation. We also want to thank our parents and community for their support as we continue to take every measure to ensure a safe learning environment.

Acting Superintendent, LuVona Copeland
