Important Safety Message Regarding “Senior Assassin”

Posted Date: 04/03/26 (02:47 PM)

Okmulgee Public Schools is aware that some of our students are participating in the trend commonly known as “Senior Assassin” outside of school hours. While some may view this as a game, we have become concerned because this activity has begun to spill over into the school day and school environment.

We want to be very clear: this activity is not permitted during school hours, on school property, or at any school-sponsored event. We are closely monitoring student behavior and will address any actions that interfere with the safety, order, and daily operations of our schools.

In addition, we strongly discourage participation in this activity in general because of the very real safety concerns it creates. Across the country, schools and law enforcement agencies have issued warnings about “Senior Assassin” because toy guns, water guns, gel blasters, and similar items can easily be mistaken for real weapons. In several communities nationwide, these situations have led to 911 calls, police response, school lockdowns, disciplinary consequences, and serious public alarm.

Even when students intend for this to be harmless, the reality is that behaviors such as chasing others, hiding on or near campus, approaching vehicles or homes, or carrying look-alike items can create fear and confusion for students, staff, families, neighbors, and law enforcement. In today’s environment, we cannot treat those risks lightly.

The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. We ask parents and guardians to speak with their students about the seriousness of this issue and to help us reinforce that this type of activity has no place at school and can have unintended consequences off campus as well.

We appreciate your partnership and support in helping us keep our schools safe.
